Getting around

Driving licence, road conditions, public transport and domestic flights.

Driving licence

  • A foreign licence is valid for 6 months, after which an international driving permit is needed. Legal driving age: 18, but rental companies often require drivers to be 25 with two years' experience.

Driving locally

  • Roads are well maintained but quickly congested in bad weather; the coastal ring road may be cut by heavy rain. Narrow, winding roads make night driving risky in the mountains.
