School and family

Accredited French schools, local schools and children's health.

Some points in this guide concern ties with France (social security, taxes, pensions, French schools) and are labelled as such. If another country's system applies to you, ask your own bodies (social security, pension fund, tax authority) and your country's embassy whether an agreement exists with this destination and what it provides.

French schools

  • French-curriculum schools

The AEFE lists 5 accredited French-curriculum schools in Mauritius: Curepipe: Lycée La Bourdonnais (under agreement with the AEFE); Mapou: École du Nord (under agreement with the AEFE); Saint-Pierre: École du Centre - Collège Pierre-Poivre (partner school), Lycée des Mascareignes (under agreement with the AEFE); Tamarin: École maternelle et primaire Paul et Virginie (partner school).

  • French-curriculum schools

There are three statuses: directly managed (a service of the AEFE, which pays the tenured staff), under agreement (run by a private association or foundation bound to the AEFE by an agreement) and partner (run by a private body that signed a partnership agreement; staff are not recruited by the AEFE). Accreditation lets pupils continue their schooling without an exam in another accredited school or in France, subject to places, and gives French pupils access to means-tested school grants.
