Crime
The country is generally safe (normal vigilance), but violent, random assaults have been rising since 2025. Avoid deserted beaches and parks at night, leave valuables in a safe, choose secure accommodation (burglaries are common) and do not resist if attacked.

Sea, climate and natural hazards
Cyclone season runs from November to April (May according to Canada): follow the Mauritius Meteorological Services and the official warning system, and keep water, batteries, a radio and food at hand.
