Areas advised against
All of Mali is a red zone for France: all travel is strongly advised against, including for tourism or family reasons. The UK also advises against all travel and urges its nationals to leave by commercial flight if they can safely do so.

In town
In Bamako: stay in a secure hotel with controlled access, limit walking, avoid travelling at night and be careful near bars and nightclubs, especially with taxi drivers. Park in guarded places and inspect the vehicle before setting off.

If in doubt, ask for the officer's ID card and call 80 00 11 15 or 80 00 11 14.
