Public transport
Local minibus taxis (4+1s) are often poorly maintained, uninsured and ignore traffic rules, according to the UK and Belgium; France advises against them.

Driving locally
Roads are adequate in Maseru, to the airport and to most border posts, but city driving is aggressive. Rural roads are gravel, poorly lit and used by livestock; a four-wheel drive is needed in the mountains and for the Sani Pass. Few fuel stations and no roadside assistance: carry a phone, blanket, warm clothes and a torch, as the weather can change quickly.
