Crime
Snatch theft and vehicle theft are common, sometimes violent. Take care in Maseru between the business district and hotels; do not go out after dark and stay away from gatherings (uncertain political situation).

On the road
Accidents are frequent and often fatal: do not drive at night (animals, no lighting), lock your doors and beware of isolated lay-bys and viewpoints, where tourists have been attacked. Snow often blocks roads from June to October.

Sea, climate and natural hazards
When hiking, introduce yourself to the chief of the village where you sleep, carry plenty of water (drought) and beware of lightning during storms. Report long trips to the French honorary consul.
