In town
In Monrovia, avoid West Point, Somalia Drive, Red Light and the big markets (Omega, Douala Market). Travel by car with doors locked, and do not go out alone or on foot at night. The French embassy has limited means in a crisis.

On the road
No road travel at night (no lighting, illegal roadblocks); avoid motorbike taxis, "kekes" and shared transport, and take only licensed taxis provided by hotels. Only main roads are paved; 4x4, experienced driver and spare fuel outside the capital. An accident can quickly draw a hostile crowd.

Sea, climate and natural hazards
The Atlantic coast is dangerous (strong currents): stay within your depth. From May to December, torrential rain, floods and impassable roads.
