The border with Senegal is advised against except for essential travel (trafficking, areas still mined along Casamance): stay on paved roads, no night travel, a convoy of several vehicles. On the Bissau-Ziguinchor road, stay on the tarmac from Ingoré to the Mpack border post.

In town
Since the electoral process was interrupted in late November 2025, a military-controlled transitional government has run the country until elections planned for December 2026; demonstrations are banned. Stay away from gatherings.

Crime
In Bissau and its suburbs, bag-snatching increases during holidays. No handbag or visible valuables, no walking at night; if attacked, do not resist.

On the road
Roads are very poor and night travel is dangerous (unlit vehicles, highway robbers on secondary roads). During the rainy season (July to September), some tracks become impassable.
