Crime
Armed robberies are rising in Conakry and its suburbs; carjackings and burglaries happen at night, often by armed men in uniform. Do not resist and do not open your door to unexpected police or soldiers: alert the anti-crime brigade and the embassy.

On the road
Never drive at night: highway robbers on main roads, especially around Kindia and Mamou. A 4x4 is essential (two spare wheels); off the main roads, a convoy of two or three vehicles with radio or satellite phone. Avoid motorbike taxis and shared transport; hire a trusted driver.
