Home security
Burglaries and robberies, sometimes armed, are common, including in residential areas (Cantonments, Ridge, Airport Residential, East Legon), especially over the holidays: choose secure accommodation with a guard and bars, and set the alarm if there is one.

Buying or leasing land
Under section 10 of the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036), a person who is not a citizen of Ghana cannot hold a freehold interest in land: any deed granting one is void. A non-citizen can hold a leasehold of no more than 50 years at any one time. These limits apply even after marriage to, or partnership with, a Ghanaian citizen, and a company with more than 40% of its equity held by non-citizens is treated as a non-citizen.
