Safety and emergencies
Areas advised against, risks on the road and in town, scams and numbers to keep with you. Advice varies with the country that publishes it.
Areas advised against
Advised against except for essential travel by France: a 30 km strip along the border with the Central African Republic, and a 10 km strip along the borders with the DRC and Cabinda (Angola). All land borders are risky: crossing one by mistake can lead to arrest.

Crime
Crime (theft, burglary, armed robbery) mainly targets property, chiefly in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire, and rises at the end of the year. If someone tries to rob you, do not resist, then report it.

In town
In Brazzaville, insecurity is low in the centre; be careful at night and in outlying districts. Security checkpoints appear during tense periods, especially elections.

In an emergency
Police: 117 (national number). Canada also lists the fire brigade on 118. The UK notes there is no central number for all emergencies and that numbers are unreliable.
