In Bangui, avoid the 3rd district (PK5) and its surroundings, scene of recurrent violence, as well as Colline aux Panthères. Armed gangs operate in outlying districts and target foreigners, including aid workers.

Security forces, UN peacekeepers, rebels and militias run roadblocks, official or not, where a bribe may be demanded. Highway robbers attack travellers: do not resist. Pull over immediately for official or armed convoys.
