Retirement

French pension from abroad, life certificate and the local pension scheme.

Some points in this guide concern ties with France (social security, taxes, pensions, French schools) and are labelled as such. If another country's system applies to you, ask your own bodies (social security, pension fund, tax authority) and your country's embassy whether an agreement exists with this destination and what it provides.

Pension

  • French state pensioners

Anyone receiving a French state pension while living here must prove they are alive every year: the life certificate is completed by a competent local authority or validated in the "Mon certificat de vie" app, without travelling. Without a reply within 2 months, pension payments are suspended.

  • French employees

To keep contributing to the French pension system while working here, CFE pension insurance is open in particular to those who paid 6 months of French old-age contributions before leaving and left that scheme less than 6 months ago, or who were covered by a French health insurance scheme for 5 years.
